PATRICK'S STORY

My family has been rooted in a legacy of helping people for at least 3 generations before me. Here we see my late grandfather with my mom and my late uncle next to him. My grandfather, Leslie Barham was a missionary in Zambia and he was called in to take care of a lion that was terrorizing the people of a local village. He’s one of my heroes.

Then when I was 22, I joined a team traveling into communist eastern Europe to smuggle bibles and Christian literature and food and medicine to the Christians in E. Europe where it was illegal to be a Christian. And then Holly (on the right in the picture) came on a summer team and here you see us in Romania during the revolution in 1989. And I asked her to marry me ... and now we’ve been married 34 amazing years.

We spent 12 years in Japan teaching the Japanese how to speak English and we worked alongside some local churches there. And in my free time, I studied marketing for thousands of hours. And we learned about kaizen and we applied the concepts to our own chain of schools and we ended up creating a true monopoly in the end.

We even had 3 children there ... all "Made in Japan"!

And it was there that I started creating software.

We sold our business in Japan and moved to Kenya at the invitation of a professor in my MBA program. I was going to be a marketing director of a safari company that was a missional business. Because of the post-election violence in 2007, there were no safaris, so I ended up being a business consultant. I was able to help companies such as Nation Media, Access Kenya (the country's #1 corporate ISP at the time), Fairmont Hotels, Kenya Airways, and a host of small and medium-sized businesses. All thanks to God's help ... and a system! I finalized the creation of my software to help myself first of all, but it evolved over the years and was eventually bought out by another company.

For 12 years we lived in N. America, getting involved in online education, teaching at the college and university levels, and helping businesses where we could. In 2020 we joined SIM, a global mission organization to see how we could help struggling businesses across Africa. Here Holly and I had a chance to speak at a Creative Hub in Ethiopia and offer business advice to startups there.
